Growing Post Instructions

Day 1

1. The first thing you need to have in your Geometry Growing post is a picture of a rectangle. You must have measurements on each of its sides( the drawing does not have to be to scale). Beside the picture of the rectangle you need to have the formula for calculating the area of rectangles.

2. The second thing you need to have in your Geometry Growing post is a picture of a triangle. You must have all the required measurments Required to measure the area of a triangle ( the drawing does not have to be to scale). Beside the picture of the rectangle you need to have the formula for calculating the area of triangles.

3. Answer the following question, What is the relationship between the area of a rectangle and a triangle?
March 15th Second Day

4. Create 2 rectangles and put them together to make a complex figure. Make sure you have side lengths. Calculate out the area of your new figure in 2 different ways. Use colour to illustrate the parts of the complex figure that is being calculated.

March 16 Third Day

5. Show how one can make a rectangle from a parallelogram. What is the area? Leave 3 constructive comments on other peoples growing posts.

The Weekend and March 20

6. Surface Area is when you have to calculate the area of all the sides of a 3D Shape. Choose a rectangular solid (aka box of somekind) and show how to calculate its Surface Area. Are There any shortcuts??


7. This triangle has side lenghts of 4 cm, 5 cm, and 6 cm. Create a triangular prism that has a depth of 10 cm. What is its surface area.?

9. The formula to find the area of a circle is pi x radius x radius. Using circles and squares show the relationship between the radius, square, and area of a circle. It is just like today's activity in math. Be creative with the use of colour in paint. Don't forget to save as a jpeg.

The growing post is due Friday April 6th.
